Sgorio pick five players that have stood out over the opening weekend of the 2021/22 Cymru Premier season.

 

Gregor Zabret – Aberystwyth

The former Swansea goalkeeper made his first league appearance for Aberystwyth in the 2-1 win over Barry Town.

The Slovenian goalkeeper proved influential in the victory with a brilliant first half save to deny Nat Jarvis and several key stops in the second half to ensure a first Aber win over Barry Town since 2003.

 

George Horan – Connah’s Quay

The Connah’s Quay captains was influential for the Champions again, scoring the second in a 0-2 win over Cefn Druids at The Rock on the opening night of the 21/22 season.

Horan, 39, scored twice in Europe this summer and is still and influential member of Andy Morrison’s team.

 

Mathew Jones – Aberystwyth

Jones creates and scores as Aberystwyth beat Barry for the first time since 2003!

Aberystwyth opener came from a Jones cross finding Sam Phillips in the six yard before Jones scored a brilliant free-kick past Mike Lewis to secure the three-point for Aber on Park Avenue.

 

Danny Gosset – Caernarfon

Two years since the news that Danny Gosset was battling cancer, the midfielder scored on his first league appearance since joining Caernarfon – a wonderful comeback story for the Wales C international.

Gosset opened the scoring with a lovely free-kick past Haverfordwest goalkeeper Lee Idzi as the Cofis beat the Bluebirds 2-0 on The Oval.

 

Michael Wilde – Flint Town

Evergreen striker Mike Wide scored twice on his first appearance in the Cymru Premier for Flint.

The 2020-21 Season Player of the Season’s signing from Connah’s Quay was one of the stories of the as the forward joined Neil Gibson’s team.
