The regular season comes to an end this Saturday, but before then there’s a crucial rescheduled fixture taking place this Wednesday between two teams who are still hoping to avoid relegation.

Flint Town United (10th) v Caernarfon Town (9th) | Wednesday – 19:30 (S4C online)

The match between Flint Town United and Caernarfon Town had to be postponed on 8 April following a brawl amongst the spectators, and therefore the rescheduled game will take place behind closed doors.

Flint Town United had gone 2-0 up in less than 10 minutes against Caernarfon Town, and the Silkmen were on track to take a giant step towards league safety.

But ambulances and police were called to the ground after spectators suffered serious injuries, and the Silkmen now, along with Caernarfon Town remain in a worrying position near the bottom of the table.

With this game in hand, Flint Town United are level on points with Aberystwyth Town (11th) while

Caernarfon Town are just a point above them.

Flint Town United were promoted in 2020, and despite finishing their first season in the top-flight in 11th place, the Silkmen dodged relegation as there was no promotion from tier 2 due to Covid postponements.

Last season, Neil Gibson led Flint Town United to a Top Six finish and a play-off final appearance where they eventually lost to Caernarfon Town in extra time.

But this year, Flint Town United and Caernarfon Town are going head-to-head in much different circumstances with both teams desperate to avoid relegation.

Caernarfon Town have had to settle for a place in the Bottom Six for the first time since their promotion in 2018, and newly appointed manager Richard Davies will be determined to keep the Cofis in the JD Cymru Premier.

The teams have met three times this season and it’s been impossible to separate them as they’ve secured one win apiece and one draw.

But this will certainly be the most important clash, as a win for either team would secure their safety and seal their place in the league for next season.

League form:
