The New Saints welcome FC Viktoria Plzeň of the Czech Republic to the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday night for the third Europa League qualifying round.

 

The New Saints claimed their place in the third qualifying round after beating Glentoran 3-1 (over two legs) in the first qualifying round and FK Kauno Žalgiris 10-1 (over two stages) in the second qualifying round.

The New Saints are now just two rounds away from qualifying for Uefa’s new competition, the Europa Conference – with a third-round win securing TNS’ place in the play-offs for a place in the main competition.

Anthony Limbrick’s team will face Plzeň, a club that finished 5th in last season’s Czech Premier League.

Since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2005, the club have since won the Premier League on five occasions since 2011 – the last time in 2017/18.

Leo Smith is one of The New Saints players that is is making a name for himself in European games. The midfielder has scored six goals in six European games for TNS since joining the club in 2020.

Former TNS striker, Michael Wilde holds the record for European goals by a Welsh Premier player with seven goals.

The Saints will face Plzeň in the first leg at Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday, 5th August at 7.45 before traveling to the Czech Republic for the second leg on the 12th of August.
