UEFA Nations League: Bulgaria 0-1 Wales

Jonny Williams scores his first goal for his country as Wales beat Bulgaria 0-1 at Sofia. Wales remain unbeaten in their UEFA Nations League campaign and top their group.

With Wales without Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale, Kieffer Moore and Hal Robson-Kanu for the away trip to Bulgaria, Ryan Giggs had to rely on younger members of the squad to fill the void.

In a disappointing first half Wales had plenty of the possession but wasted many opportunities from set pieces.

One of the older members of the squad had to be called upon to secure the three points, with Jonny Williams – who won his first cap in 2013 – scorring the winning goal after 84 minutes.

Neco Williams – who scored the winner in the home game against Bulgaria – set up the winner, a good cross from the right with Jonny Williams firing a beautiful half volley into the roof of the net.

Ryan Giggs is building a team that is certainly hard to beat. Wales have not lost since June 11 in competitive matches – a record of nine games – with the team not conceding in their last six competitive games.

Wales will welcome the Republic of Ireland (15/11) and Finland (18/11) to the Cardiff City Stadium in November, these are Wales’ final fixtures in the 2020 Nations League campaign with the team hoping to win promotion to League A. Both matches will be live matches on S4C.
