S4C will show live coverage of the Genero Adran Premier match between Swansea City and Cardiff Met on the opening weekend of the season.
The match, which will be played at the Swansea.com Stadium on Sunday 4 September at 5.45pm, will be televised on S4C and shown online on S4C Clic, and Sgorio’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
The fixture between the defending Genero Adran Premier champions and the 2021/22 runners-up has been one of the most hotly contested in the league.
Swansea secured their third straight top-flight title last season and were presented with the trophy following a 1-1 draw against Met at Cyncoed Campus on the final day of the campaign.
The Swans came out on top with a 2-1 victory when the two sides met in the league earlier in the campaign, while Met earned a 4-2 shootout win in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals on their way to lifting the trophy.
With little to separate the two sides in their latest meetings, it is set to be an intriguing and exciting start to the 2022/23 campaign.
Alicia Powe, Swansea City captain, said: “With the recent success of the Euros, it shows the appetite for the women’s game is growing. It’s a huge platform for Welsh women’s football to be televised at the Swansea.com Stadium. The whole squad is excited to be part of this milestone event and we can’t wait to get the season started.”
Ianthe Mumford, Genero Adran Premier General Manager, said: “What better way to mark the start of a new Genero Adran Premier season than to have a match at a top stadium and live on S4C?
“The buzz around women’s football in the last few weeks has been amazing and this is a great chance for people to see the fantastic talent we have on offer in the Welsh domestic game, as two of our leading teams go head-to-head.”
Sue Butler, S4C Sports Commissioner, said: “It is a fitting way to start the new Genero Adran Leagues season with a match between two of the best teams in Wales and we are looking forward to showing what should be a fantastic spectacle, live on S4C.
We are proud to continue our support of the league and to play our part in the exciting development of the women’s game in Wales.”
