The race to reach the elusive Top Six is starting to heat up in the JD Cymru Premier.

Friday4 December

Aberystwyth Town v Connah’s Quay Friday – 19:45

The champions have started the season strongly, winning 10 of their 13 games and currently have five points more than they did at this stage last season.

But despite the improvement, Connah’s Quay are still trailing the league leaders The New Saints by six points, but as the Saints are not in action this weekend, Andy Morrison will be determined to grasp the chance to close the gap.

Aberystwyth Town have had a sticky start to the season, and after winning only one of their last nine matches the Black & Greens now find themselves only a point above the relegation zone.

The Seasiders have only won twice this season, but with four consecutive home games coming upGavin Allen will be hoping his young side can climb the table before Christmas.

The Nomads haven’t lost any of their last six meetings with Aberystwyth (won 5, drawn 1), and after four wins on the bounce it would be considered a shock if Connah’s Quay were to leave Ceredigion empty handed.

Pen-y-bont v Caernarfon Town | Saturday – 14:15 (S4C)

Pen-y-bont and Caernarfon will have their sights set on securing a top half spot before the league split, and with only three points separating the two teams the outcome of this game could prove vital in the race for the Top Six.

Both teams come into the weekend having drawn their last game – Pen-y-bont conceding late at home to drop points against bottom side Cefn Druids last Sunday, while Caernarfon gained what could be perceived as a good point against a strong Bala outfit on Tuesday night.

Caernarfon Town are on their longest run without a win in two years (6 games), but the Cofis will take confidence in the fact that they have never lost against Pen-y-bont (won 1, drawn 2).

Haverfordwest County v Cefn Druids | Saturday – 14:30

Haverfordwest County have shot up the table to 5th place after two impressive victories against Caernarfon Town and Aberystwyth Town in the last week.

Cefn Druids remain bottom of the pile having won only one of their 11 games this season.

Both teams will be eager to go head-to-head for the first time in 10 years, and lets hope that it’s a case of third time lucky for these clubs as this fixture has had to be postponed twice this season due to Covid-19 regulations.

Cardiff Met v Bala Town Saturday – 14:30

Like HaverfordwestCardiff Met have had a successful week picking up six points from their fixtures against Flint Town United and Newtown which has seen the students rise from 10th to 7th position.

Bala Town are on a roll of late as Colin Caton’s side have gone nine games without defeat (won 6, drawn 3), which is their longest unbeaten stretch in four years.

After gaining promotion to the topflight in 2016, Cardiff Met lost their first seven league games against Bala Town.

But since 2019, the Archers have won each one of their last five meetings with the Lakesiders, including the 2018/19 playoff final which Cardiff Met won on penalties to book their place in Europe for the first time in their history.

Barry Town United v Flint Town United Saturday – 14:30

After winning five from six at the start of the season, Barry Town have fizzled out of the title race following a run of six games without a win where the Dragons have only scored three goals.

Flint Town United are also in a rut having lost nine of their last 10 matches.

It was the Barry boys who won the reverse fixture as Kayne McLaggon netted the only goal of the game from the penalty spot at Cae y Castell back in September.
