Gareth Bale was once again the hero for Cymru as his late penalty secures a point in their opening World Cup game
It was a nervous first half for Cymru with the youngsters of America dominating the play and looking dangerous.
America went ahead after 36 minutes when a slick pass from Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic found Tim Weah’s diagonal run, he proceeded to slide the ball past an onrushing Hennessey.
Cymru gaffer Rob Page had seen enough in the opening 45 minutes and made a change at the half time break with Kieffer Moore replacing Dan James in the front line.
The big man’s presence changed the game for the better causing all sorts of problems for the American defenders. As Cymru raised the tempo there were opportunities for Ben Davies and Moore but the USA survived.
With nine minutes remaining, some quick play from Cymru saw Bale brought down in the box from a clumsy Ream challenge. Bale stepped up facing the Red Wall and hit a powerful penalty into the back of the net to bring Cymru level.
It was a good finish to the game for Cymru but the red men weren’t able to find a winner which means a point from the opening game of the tournament.
Next up is Iran on Friday who suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of England on Monday afternoon.
Cymru’s group campaign will end with a game against England a week on Tuesday.
